Meet Beary Wild & Wonderful SAL Block #9

Beary is finally out of hibernation and he couldn't be happier!

Those of you who belong to the Wild & Wonderful FB group can download the pattern for free until June 12th, 2021.  You will find it in the files on the group page.

There is still time to join us on the Wild & Wonderful SAL.  Simply visit the Wild & Wonderful FB group page and request to join.  Wild & Wonderful SAL FB Page

If you are interested in a printed pattern, kit or thread kits or bears please visit my Etsy store:  Shop Here

Beary lives in Northwest Montana very close to Glacier National Park.  If you wonder why he has that smile on his face, it's because huckleberry season is just around the corner!

When I first moved to Montana, I picked huckleberries and sold them to restaurants and grocery stores. And yes, I ran into a bear or two while picking them.

Some fun facts about Huckleberries:

Grow wild in the northwestern USA, western Canada. Alaska and Idaho.

Ripen in mid to late summer and peak in August.

When purchased fresh, expect to pay $65.00 a lb.

They are so delicious in pies and milkshakes!

Their high sugar content helps bears store fat for the winter.

This Wild & Wonderful Stitch A Long has been so fun to participate in.  All 9 of the participating designers enjoyed it so much  We sure hope you did too! We loved it so much, we are planning the

Wild & Wonderful Under the Harvest Moon next! We hope you will join us!  Stay tuned for more details!

Coming Soon!

UPDATE: Here is the finished design!
Isn't it grand?

You don't have to purchase anything to participate.  You certainly can use your own fabrics, notions and embellishments.  But it is nice to know that purchasing the materials is an option. The designers that have revealed their designs, still have kits available.  And the designers that have not revealed their designs, you can purchase a preorder.  They will ship the kits out three days prior to their reveal date.

I am offering a printed pattern, fabric kit and thread kit in the Woolin Rouge Designs Etsy Shop

This SAL has been so fun to participate in.  The 8 designers I am working with are so very talented, humble and kind.  They have a true passion for what they do.  And the other thing that makes it extra special is that the cotton fabrics we are using for the backgrounds and borders is from Diamond Textiles.  Diamond Textiles and woolens go hand in hand.

Keep in mind the cutoff date for the free patterns is June 19th, 2021.  After that date, you can purchase the patterns in each of the designers stores.

Update: free patterns are no longer available.  But you can purchase the patterns, kit and notions at each participating designers website.

I hope you join us!

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to email me, at woolinrougedesigns@gmail.com.

Cheers to Creativity!

Winter Wonderland SAL Block 12

 Hello - Hello!

Welcome to the Winter Wonderland Mystery Sew-A-Long Block 12

It is an honor a privilege to reveal the last block before the finishing instructions.

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls,
Coming to you from nature's Starlight Theatre
please welcome

The free download is no longer available.  But you can purchase the pattern here:

This design is made up of quite a few memories from my past and present.
Here is the story behind the design.

My mom was a prima ballerina at the Starlight Theatre in Kansas City, MO.  She entertained me for hours recounting the stories from performing there. I felt so special knowing my mom was a ballet dancer. In my mind, she was royalty...a princess.

When I was 7, my teacher assigned the class to create a drawing of a snowman on construction paper with crayons and cotton balls.  Art was and still remains my favorite subject. I remember my teacher telling me that my artwork showed lots of character.  But there was something missing. She asked me to sign name in the right hand corner. As soon as I put the dot over the i in Traci, I immediately felt a rush throughout my body.  I knew right then and there that I wanted to be an artist.

When I was 13, my parents took me to the Barnum and Bailey circus for my birthday. My favorite part of the show was watching the dogs do all the tricks. I was just fascinated at all the things they were trained to do.

When I was 16.  My mom took me to see Marcel Marceau at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, CA.  I was mesmerized by his performance.  My mom and I were invited back stage and I actually got to meet him.  Marcel Marceau held my hand in his and looked me straight in the eyes. His hands were still warm from his performance. It is a moment I will never forget.  It is encapsulated in my very soul.

Fast forward to 2021.  I am now 61.  I live in Montana where I design in my workshop that has beautiful views of the mountains. It is very rare for me to go to a circus or to a theatre so I depend on nature and my imagination for much of my entertainment.  One of my favorite forms of entertainment is watching the sun disappear behind the snow capped mountains as the stars start to light up the sky.

I gathered up all these memories and put them in this little design just for you.

I invite to to take some time and look around the Woolin Rouge Designs

How Barnabas Came To Be

The day I received the phone call to be apart of the Spellbound Mystery Sew~A~Long, I severely fractured the humerus bone in my right arm.  How in the heck was I going to be able to design a block now?  After my surgery, the doctor said I wouldn't be able to draw with my right hand for many weeks. Not only was my arm broken, but my heart as well.

With encouragement from the other 11 designers in the group, I didn't give up. Maybe I couldn't draw right now, but my imagination still worked. As I lay around the house recuperating, I went over several design ideas in my head.  Nothing seemed quite right.  I just wasn't feeling inspired.

That all changed one morning when I heard my husband come down the stairs and say, "there is a bat in our bedroom!"

The first words out of my mouth were"SCARY!"

Apparently, I had left one of our doors open and the bat decided to come in that night and  make himself at home. Thankfully, my husband was able to escort the bat back outside.  There's never  been a bat in my house before and hopefully there never will be again. But I am grateful for the incident, as it sparked the idea to bring Barnabas to life.

I hope you have enjoyed the Spellbound Mystery Sew~A~Long.  It sure has been a delight for me to be apart of this amazing and talented group.  I can't wait to see all your finished block togethers.

Happy Halloween!

Tuesday, August 25, 2020

I spent the most of Saturday morning texting back and forth with Tonja from Blackberry Primitives.  I decided on my color palette for my block.  Tonja dyed a few of the colors on textured wool for me.  I will give you a sneak peek when the package arrives.

I also picked out the Ellana wool threads for the design.  I will be selling these along with the kits. Stitching with this thread is dreamy. Here is how WonderFIL explains the thread on their website:

Engineered with hand wool appliquĆ© in mind, Ellana™ is a 12wt 2 ply, 50/50 Merino wool/acrylic blend. The wool provides a rich colour palette and soft loft, while the acrylic gives the thread unbelievable strength. Its perfect twist allows the thread to gently coat the edge of wool appliquĆ©, melting into the wool. The result is an almost invisible whipstitch which creates a smooth, clean edge prepared for embellishing. Ellana™ is fray resistant and contains significantly less fuzz, rendering an unparalleled smoothness. Its soft loft is ideal for creating delicate detail when used for hand embroidery.

Can't wait to give you another sneak peek of my progress.  Until then ...~
